Used Propane Refrigerators

Our website offers the advice you need to help find the best used refrigerators.

Propane refrigerators are powered by gas or propane and are commonly used on RV’s, boats, cabins, and by environmentally conscience homeowners.  Besides being powered by gas and propane, they are unique because they have no moving parts, motors or fans. This means there is less wear and tear of the parts of the refrigerator and you will never hear a motor turning on. They also use heat to control the cold temperature in the fridge to avoid frost and freezing.

How It Works

Propane And Gas Refrigerator

They use ammonia and water as a coolant which is heated by the generator using the propane or gas. Once the ammonia and water solution has reached its boiling point it will flow into a separator that separates the water and ammonia. The ammonia gas will head to a condenser which disperses the heat turning the ammonia back into a liquid. From there, the ammonia heads into the evaporator where it will mix with hydrogen gas and it evaporates resulting in a cold temperature. Next, the ammonia and hydrogen gas head to the absorber. Here the water that was collected earlier mixes with the hydrogen and ammonia gases. The ammonia forms with the water, releasing the hydrogen gas, which heads back to the evaporator to start the whole cycle over again.
